                 In Nagercoil region ulunthu appam is one of the main naiveidhyam for Goddess Durga at 9th day of  Navarathri function. Today I shared the recipe of ulunthu appam.With one batter we can make two dishes,one is sweet appam and the other one is vadai.If you want please check Ulunthu vadai recipe,Now let's start the recipe...


PREPARATION TIME:20 min

COOKING TIME:15 min

INGREDIENTS:

Urad dal - 100 gm
Jaggery - 50 gm
Coconut oil for deep frying

PICTORIAL:


Take 100 gm urad dal


Soak for 1 hour


Add 50 gm jaggery to the morter


Add 100 gm soaked urad dal


Grind well until smooth and fluffy.Do not use water while grinding it.


Tranfer it into a  bowl


From the appam batter,take small amount of the batter and drop it in the hot oil

fry both sides


fry until it is crisp and brown


Drain the excess oil and kepp aside


Delicious ulunthu appam is ready

METHOD:

  • Soak 200 gm urad dal for 1 hour
  • Grind the soaked urad dal with 50 gm jaggery.
  • Grind well until it is smooth and fluffy batter.Do not use water while grinding it.The consistency of the batter should be thick.
  • Heat a kadai with coconut oil for deep frying.
  • From the grounded batter,take small amount of the batter and drop it in the hot oil.
  • Fry both sides,until it is crisp and brown.
  • Drain the excess oil and the delicious ulunthu appam is ready.
