 EGG THEEYAL RECIPE


              Egg theeyal or mutta theeyal is a popular dish in nagercoil region.It is a coconut based gravy.The coconut and seasoning ingredients should be dry roast first and then grounded to a smooth paste.
             The spicy coconut gravy is cooked well and further mixed with the boiled eggs.It is one of my favourite recipe.Easy and simple recipe but taste delicious.I learnt this recipe from my mom.Now let's check out the recipe...

PREPARATION TIME:20 min

COOKING TIME:20 min

INGREDIENTS:

Egg - 6
Grated coconut - 3 tblspn
Pepper - 1 tblspn
Curry leaves - 3 arc
Garlic - 20
Turmeric powder - 1 tspn (I use small piece of  virali manjal)
Salt
Oil
Mustard - 1 tspn
Red chilli powder - 1 tblspn
Coriander powder - 1 tspn
Water

PICTORIAL:

Heat a kadai add 3 tblspn grated coconut


Add 1 tblspn pepper


Add 2 strings of curry leaves


Roast until it is dark brown in colour


Add small piece of virali manjal and grind well using grindstone or blender


Add roasted coconut mixture


Grind well into a smooth paste


Heat a kadai add 2 tblspn oil


Add  1/2 tsp mustard


After it splutters add curry leaves


Add 20 garlic


Fry until it is golden 


Transfer it into a earthen ware pot 


Add 2 cups of water


Add grounded coconut mixture


Add 1 tblspn red chilli powder


Add 1 tspn coriander powder


Mix well


Add required salt


Wait to boil


Boil until raw smell of the spices are gone


After few minutes smell aromatic and it is thickened


Take boiled eggs


Add the mixture to the boiled eggs


Yummy and spicy egg thiyal is ready


METHOD:

  • Heat a kadai and add 3 tblspn grated coconut,1 tblspn pepper,some curry leaves,fry until it is dark brown in colour.
  • Grind the roasted mixture with 1 tspn turmeric powder and keep aside.
  • Heat a kadai with 2 tblspn oil,add 1/2 tspn mustard after it splutters add curry leaves and 20 garlic,fry until it is golden in colour and then transfer it into a earthenware pot.
  • Add 2 cups of water,grounded coconut mixture,required salt,1 tblspn red chilli powder and 1 tspn coriander powder.
  • After 5 minutes it starts boiling,boil until the raw smell are gone.
  • After few minutes it turns aromatic and thickened,now switch off the flame.
  • Yummy and spicy egg thiyal is ready.
