 MANJAL KOZHUKATTAI

             Everybody knows kolukattai.In Nagercoil we make manjal kolukattai.It is different from the normal kolukattai.
             Main thing we have to concentrate on this recipe is the batter consistency.Grind the soaked urad dal and fenugreek well using very little water.Sprinkle some water to grind the soaked rice.The grinded rice batter should be little coarsely not much and the consistency should be very thick,so that the kolukattai will be soft.If we grind the rice smoothly the kolukattai will be harder.
             After boiling the water prepare this kolukattai by adding turmeric powder and crushed shallots.So that the kolukattai do not break while cooking because we cook this kolukattai in boiling water.We can serve this kolukattai with masala chutney and chicken curry.
             After boiled all kolukattai,we can drink the kolukattai boiled water by adding required salt.It is good for health because it contains turmeric powder and shallots.I learn't this recipe from my mom.Please do try this healthy recipe and let me know how it turns out to you.Now let's check out the recipe....

INGREDIENTS:

Rice/pulungal arisi/idli arisi - 2 cups
Urad dal - 1/2 cup
Fenugreek - 1/4 cup
Grated coconut - 2 cup
Shallots - 25
Turmeric powder - 2 tsp
Salt
Water

PICTORIAL:

Soak the 2 cup rice over night


Soak 1/2 cup urad dal over night


Soak 1/4 cup fenugreek over night


Grind the soaked urad dal until smooth and fluffy using little water



Grind the soaked fenugreek until smooth and fluffy using little water



Grind the soaked rice using very little water.The rice batter should be little coarsely not much and the consistency should be thick so that kolukattai will be soft and do not break while cooking



Add 2 cup grated coconut,grind coarsely


Coarsely grounded coconut


Coarsely grounded  shallot 


Add salt and mix well,no need to ferment it.


Heat a heavy bottom pan and add water


After boils water,add 2 tsp turmeric and 7 crushed shallots


Make a small ball out of the dough 


Drop it in the boiling water


cook for few minutes


 
After 10 min,it cooked well.



     
To check the kolukattai whether it is cooked or not by take one from the boiling water and cut using the knife or sharp spoon


     
Tasty manjal kolukattai is ready

        

Serve it with masala chutney or chicken curry taste delicious


METHOD:

  1. Soak the rice,urad dal and fenugreek for over night.
  2. Grind the soaked urad dal using little water until it is smooth and fluffy and keep aside.
  3. Grind the soaked fenugreek using little water until smooth and fluffy then add soaked rice and grind using very little water.The consistency of the batter should be very thick.
  4. Then add 1 cup grated coconut and grind coarsly,then add shallot and grind coarsely,mix it with the batter with required salt,no need to ferment it.
  5. Heat 3liter water in a heavy bottom pan .After boiling the water,add 2 tspn turmeric powder and 7 crushed shallots to it.
  6. To make a small ball out of the grounded batter and drop it in the boiling water.
  7. After 10 min,to check if it is cooked or not.Take one kolukattai from the boiling water and cut using the sharp spoon.
  8. Tasty manjal kolukattai is ready.Serve it with masala chutney or chicken curry.
