             Thayir kichadi is one of the side dish in Kanyakumari wedding feast.Somewhere in Tamilnadu and Kerala,they call it as thayir pachadi.It is an easy and simple kichadi that anyone can prepare.I use thadiyangai for this recipe.Thadiyangai is also known as ash gourd in English.The other vegetables that are used in this kichadi are cucumber and okra.
             Finely chopped ash gourd is cooked and then mixed with the coconut mixture and cooked well,after that adding the tempering, once it cools down add fresh curd to it.Do try this recipe and let me know how it will turns out to you.Now let's check out the recipe...

PREPARATION TIME:15min

COOKING TIME:20 min

INGREDIENTS:

Ash gourd - 50 gm
Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
Green chillies - 4
Mustard - 1/2 tspn
Curry leaves - 1 string
Red chillies - 3
Coconut oil - 1/2 tblspn
Water - 100 ml
Salt as required
Curd - 2 spoon

PICTORIAL:


Take chopped ash gourd


Heat a earthenware pot with100 ml water


Add chopped ash gourd


Add required salt


Close the lid and cook until the ash gourd cooks well


In a mixier jar add 1/2 cup grated coconut


Add 4 green chillies


Grind it little coarsely


After few minutes ash gourd cooked well


Add grounded coconut mixture and mix well


Cook until raw smell are gone


After few minutes it turns aromatic.Switch off the flame


Transfer it to a bowl


Heat a kadai with 1/2 tblspn oil


Add 1/2 tspn mustard


After it splutters add curry leaves


Add 3 red chillies


Saute well


Add the tempering to the ash gourd mixture


After it cools down,add 2 spoon of curd and mix well


Tasty ash gourd thayir kichadi is ready

METHOD:

  • Heat a earthenware pot with 150 ml water,add chopped ash gourd.Close the lid and cook until the ash gourd cooks well.
  • Add 1/2 cup grated coconut and 4 green chillies into a mixie jar, and grind it little coarsely.
  • After few minutes,ash gourd cooked well,add the grounded coconut  mixture into it and mix well.Cook until raw smell are gone.Once it turns aromatic,transfer it to a bowl.
  • Heat a kadai with 2 tblspn oil,add 1/2 tblspn mustard after it splutters add curry leaves and 3 red chillies.Saute well and add it to the cooked ash gourd mixture.
  • Once it cools down,add 2 spoon of curd and mix well.
  • Tasty ash gourd thayir kichadi is ready.
