 MURUNGAI KEERAI SAARU


                  Moringa leaves saaru or Murungai keerai saaru is a leafy vegetable and it has many health benefits.It is also called as drumstick tree leaves kulambu.During pongal day,in Tamil it is 'Thai Thirunal' it is one of the kulambu in our lunch.Pacharisi satham with keerai saaru and chakka kootu curry makes our lunch yummy and delicious.It is most popular and common dish in Nagercoil region.  
                Saute the cleaned and washed moringa leaves in coconut oil for few sec and then cook it with a grounded coconut and shallot mixture.I learn't this recipe from my mom.Please do try this recipe and let me know how it will turn out to you.Now let's check out the recipe....


PREPARATION TIME:15 min

COOKING TIME:8 min

INGREDIENTS:

Virali manjal / turmeric - small piece
Red chillies - 2
Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
Cumin - 1/4 tblspn
Shallot - 3
Moringa leaves / Murungai keerai - 1 handful
Coconut oil - 1 tblspn
Salt
Water - 200 ml

PICTORIAL:


In a grindstone add a small piece of virali manjal/turmeric


Add 2 red chillies


Add 1/2 cup grated coconut


Grind coarsely


Add 1/4 tblspn cumin


Add 3 shallots,grind coarsely


Coarsely grounded coconut and shallot mixture


Heat a tblspn of coconut oil in a kadai



Add a handful of cleaned and washed moringa leaves/murungai keerai,saute for 50 sec


Add 200 ml water


Add coarsely grounded coconut and shallot mixture,mix well


Add salt and wait to boil


After few minutes it starts boil,mix well.Don't let to boil,it will changes the kulambu taste.


Again starts boil,mix well and switch off the flame


Tasty keerai saaru//murungai keerai kulambu is ready.


METHOD:

  • In a grindstone add a small piece of virali manjal,2 red chillies,1/2 cup grated coconut,1/4 tblspn cumin and 5 shallots.Grind coarsely and keep aside.
  • Heat a tblspn of coconut oil in a kadai,add clean and washed moringa leaves,saute for 50 sec.
  • Add 200 ml water,coarsely grounded coconut mixture and required salt,mix well and wait to boil.
  • After few minutes it starts boil,mix well.Don't let to boil,it will changes the kulambu taste.Again it starts boil,mix well and switch off the flame.
  • Tasty keerai saaru /murungai keerai kulambu  is ready.
